Enzo Mari, a dominant figure of Italian design has passed away

The legendary Italian designer died a day after his retrospective exhibition was opened on October 17, at the Triennale di Milano.

We were just about to publish an article about the design oeuvre of Enzo Mari (1932-2020) being showcased in the framework of a comprehensive exhibition curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist at the Triennale di Milano, when we found out about his death. The artist active since the fifties passed away at the age of 88, in San Raffaele Hospital in Milan.

During his 60-year career, Mari designed for brands like Alessi, Artemide, Danese, MUJI or Zanotta. He defined good design as:

sustainable, accessible, functional, well made, emotionally resonant, enduring, socially beneficial, beautiful, economic and affordable.
