Hungarian design round-up for winter snuggles

In addition to the curfew and the mandatory home office, now the weather also keeps confining us within the four walls – after a year like this, we deserve some peace and rest more than ever, and so it is time that we slow down a little. From hugging pillows to scented candles, from home decor to winter spice blends, we collected products that could sweeten staying at home in the winter period, and may even make great gifts under the tree. Contributing to the #együttahazaitervezőkért initiative, we showcase the works of a few eco-conscious Hungarian small businesses and creators, by purchasing which you can support the Hungarian design community.

GreenWay Candle
From soy wax, through heavy metal free cotton candlewicks to recyclable and redeemable packaging, Greenway does everything to provide its customers with eco-conscious candles. The delightful scents and the warm, brown candlelight create a hygge vibe in our homes instantly, and by purchasing the soul-warming product, you not only support a Hungarian business, but also give to charity at the same time. Greenway gives HUF 100 to the Mindenki Fogadjon Örökbe Egy Kiskutyát dog shelter organization from the price of every candle sold.

Manohuis
It’s enough to look at Manohuis’s eco-conscious huggable pillows to get your spirits up, but if you want to play safe, go and hug these miracles made of wool, inspired by doodles and the eighties.

ESZKA
We would welcome anything from ESZKA, but on these cold days, perhaps the blanket and pillow sets and the jogsuits brightening up our home office would be the best.

Tomcsanyi
The Tomcsanyi brand released a cozy, snuggly homewear collection this year, too, thus we cannot only see their characteristic patterns popping up on elegant shirts or dresses but on truly comfortable pieces, too, like hoodies and sweatsuits.

Zoktopus
On gloomy winter days, Zoktopus’s cool, patterned socks will keep you warm and cheer you up. The ski lift and penguin versions are true winter gems, but the one with the yellow tram will also remain our forever favorite.

Kelende Manufaktúra
Committed to “slow life” and sustainability, Kelende Manufaktúrais a love project, with the not so hidden goal of eliminating the “knitting+crocheting=grandma style” stereotype. The palette of their aesthetic, practical and environmentally friendly products include everything from kitchen objects to baby accessories: we can find plate mats, naturabag containers, washable face cleansing pads and “wipe-alls”, too.

BOO STUDIO
BOO STUDIO, the joint brand of Ildikó Kele and Eszter Lebó was launched just recently. The goal of their brand is to offer baby products made of high quality materials instead of acrylic, which are timeless and durable pieces that can be worn by several generations. Thus you’ll find accessories for kids and babies primarily amongst BOO’s knitted products, the patterns of which are made of different variations of the logo. The baby hats, scarves, blankets and beanies are made of Merino wool, thus every product is hypoallergenic and very comfortable.

ëviköt kït
Speaking of softness, the ëviköt kit can be a perfect choice also for spending your empty hours in a fun way! The kit includes a knitting needle, a pack-needle, wool yarn and instructions for acquiring the basics of knitting, and all this comes in a linen bag decorated with Viktória Hitka’s graphics.

Kirakós Budapest
This year, the Hungarian puzzle market was enriched with truly special pieces, the puzzles displaying the colorful graphics of Eszter Glaser, Anna Katalin Lovrity and Regina Papp. The 300-piece games are perfect for a winter night dedicated to relaxation, and the girls also recommend music albums and food combinations for each puzzle in their online store.

WabiSabi Park
WabiSabi Park is the toy library of nature-oriented child education, offering educational games and DIY game ideas based on the Montessori principles that can be downloaded either for free or with a Patreon membership and then printed at home. It can be very useful for keeping the kids busy at home with educational and creative activities.

Natuwoo
Natuwoo‘s nature-inspired product palette offers graphics printed on paper, soy wax candles and wooden candleholders, but our all time favorites are the stamps with plant motifs, allowing us to decorate wrapping paper or greeting cards for Christmas.

Ye Tealeaves
The Ye tealeaves brand owned by Olivér Kövecses sneaks the unforgettable tea adventures of China into Hungarian households. Their mission is to change people’s perception of teas, with calming tealeaves wrapped into minimalist packaging and tea accessories.

Tünde Ruzicska’s cups
A good tea experience is only complete with a good cup, and luckily we can also find high quality Hungarian products in this genre, too. Including the tea cups designed by ceramic artist Tünde Ruzicska for ZHAO ZHOU, the favorite store of tea fans. The ceramist is also available for individual orders.

The spice blends of A fűszeres lány
Zsófia Nagy’s spice mixes made of Hungarian ingredients produced by her and combined in the perfect ratio include classic Hungarian blends and the herb salts of other nations, too. The mixes intended for gingerbread, hot wine or dishes made with pumpkin specifically will help you get in the Christmas mood for sure, and will spice up the boring quarantine days, too.
