The surreal world of the Kyiv metro network has more than once inspired the creative arts. It was the same with Michał Klimecki, a Czech-born 3D designer who, stepping out of his comfort zone, grabbed a camera and captured the peculiar yet charming milieu of the Kyiv metro. Now we can see the underground and surface world of metro stations through his eyes and through the lens of his camera.
The atmosphere of the underground spaces and the Soviet architecture captivated Klimecki, who had not photographed since his university years. The legacy of the brutalist architecture of the former Soviet Union, the stations floating in the dim light provided an environment also suitable for a film set.
