Split in silence

Abandoned beach chairs in the sand, a motionless bouncing castle, deserted stand and spotless flip flops – painted by Croatian artist Josipa Krolo in her hometown, Split, Croatia. Seeing the paintings, we immediately thought of pop-art hotshot David Hockney.

Josipa Krolo captures the melancholic world of deserted Croatian beaches in her painting collection “Postseason”. There are no sign of tourists heading towards the water in the heatwave: with the arrival of fall, the beaches overcrowded in the busy season become mattress and parasol-free, and are only there to serve the locals (if there’s anyone to serve at all). The hubbub is replaced by silence in the Croatian tourist center, and the fight for the plastic deck chairs is over, as well. We’re simply in love!

The digital prints made of the paintings are available in the artist’s etsy shop.
