Jaguar will only manufacture electric cars by 2025

UK luxury brand Jaguar Land Rover will be an all-electric carmaker by 2025. The first electric Land Rover will hit the market in 2024.

France will ban the use of internal combustion engine vehicles from 2040, California from 2035, and Norway from 2025— it’s no surprise that carmakers are also trying to change directions and switch to electric engines. The British luxury brand Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) promises to manufacture exclusively electric cars from 2025, and by 2030, all of their current models will be available in electric versions. They plan to spend £2.5 billion a year to fund the transition.

The announcement is remarkable also because JLR has not made significant efforts in this area so far: last year, the firm had to pay a £35 million fine in the EU for missing CO2 emissions targets. Recently, however, the company’s new CEO, Thierry Bolloré, has announced that their goal is to achieve zero carbon emission by 2039.
