Lunch in a new way: Szimply introduces Lunch Boxes

Szimply, operating in the center of Budapest, has been known for its eye-catching and delicious brunches—although, back in the COVID-free times of peace, it was pretty hard to get a table with all the tourists sitting around at their venue in Röser udvar. Like many, they had to resort to delivery to survive, but they decided to reform it, as they often do so.

Péter Bajkó, running the trinity of Kontakt, Szimply, and Horizont, tries to bring color into the everyday lives of people working from their home offices with Lunch Boxes. Their weekly changing boxes contain food that’s enough not just for one, but for two and a half days—their diverse selection (cooked meals, snacks, dessert) is made using fresh ingredients, and we can choose from options “A” or “B” for a given delivery day. They came up with plant-based dishes mainly, but those who crave meat will not be disappointed either. Most of their Lunch Box dishes can be consumed instantly, but some require a bit of preparation, such as heating them in the oven for a few minutes.

We tested an “A” box: the vegetable ragout soup is perfect for cold winter days, but we also loved the various spreads (Jewish egg, hummus, goat cheese cream). Among the main dishes, the eggplant gratin and the purple cabbage lasagne, the latter was our favorite, and we capped all this off with a salted caramel brownie at the end of our office lunch. With these Lunch Boxes, we can easily plan our weekly meals in advance, and the good news is that they deliver not only to the inner but also to the outer districts of Budapest, as well as to the city’s agglomeration.
