Réka Bucsi was selected among the best in the competition announced by Vimeo with her animated short movie “Plante.”. With the initiative, the video sharing platform aimed to help freelancer creators and local businesses at the same time.
As part of the “Stories in Place” series, Vimeo invited a total of 8 creatives to create a short film about their favorite local businesses. The filmmakers were selected by Vimeo’s staff from those who had previously made it to the Staff Pics selection of the channel. Each of the 8 creatives had a budget of USD 5000 and a total of 12 days to create the videos they had in mind. In addition, Vimeo offered support for the local businesses, too, while also striving to help them by sharing their stories, through the power of the community.
In the two-minute animation titled “Plante.” made by Réka Bucsi, a frequent participant of international film festivals, flora and fauna come to life. The animation director experiments with using the animal and plant illustrations of the currently quite popular Biodiversity Heritage Library and combines the various sequences with Johann Sebastian Bach’s music.
The film stars Plante Budapest led by Mimi Klenovszki and Kata Tóth: a downtown plant shop that transformed into an online store overnight, in response to the coronavirus outbreak. Although the store located at Madách tér is not shown in the film, the “slow life” feeling and philosophy considered important by the girls and the importance of the diversity of nature can be felt all throughout the movie.
Vimeo’s goal was to reveal fascinating stories about small businesses who prove their resourcefulness by adjusting to the current situation, trying to survive the challenging period caused by the coronavirus with crazy or astounding ideas.
