Contemporary photography in focus | Garten 2020

An exhibition and fair showcasing more than three hundred contemporary artworks, guided tours, art-focused talks, open-air cinema and concerts on the northern shore of Lake Balaton, in Lovas: GARTEN visual art fair 2020 starts soon. This year’s attractions include a greater emphasis on contemporary photography. Let’s see the details!

GARTEN fair founded by visual artist Ákos Bánki and art historian János Schneller is organized for the second time this year. The venue of the fair is Lovas, where guests cannot only see the artworks showcased, but also purchase them between August 1 and 22. We can also take part in several exciting programs, if we are looking for a place to unwind. 

Works of art including the pieces of Barnabás Neogrády-Kis‘ Covid-19 series made during the lockdown, the photographs of László Mészáros in various genres, the geometric constructions of Réka Bohus and Balázs Csizik, the photos of Viola Koczka focused on finding one’s identity and the images of Alíz Ács‘ Walpurg series examining the theme of death and transcendence will be available for an affordable price. In addition, the guests will also be able to see curiosities including the expressive works of Kossuth award-winning dancer and choreographer Andrea Ladányi.

The 3-week exhibition and fair will be complemented with guided tours and talks focusing on the topic of photography, also allowing the guests to learn more about Róbert Alföldi‘s photo collection. In addition, the programs include the concert of photographer Zsuzsi Ujj, and we’ll also be invited to watch documentaries related to photography in GARTEN’s open-air cinema, including the film The Salt of the Earth focusing on the world of Sebastião Salgado or the biographical documentary Mapplethorpe: Look at the Pictures.
