Design in an age of crisis | Open Call

The global open call of London Design Biennale and Chatham House invites the world’s design community, the public and young people to show how design could help build a better world during the pandemic and after. Anyone can apply until the end of the month.

“We want to hear your radical design thinking about the world you want to live in. How can we create healthier, greener, equal and prosperous societies?” – begins London Design Biennale their call.

We are living in an age of world crises which the current Covid-19 pandemic has either shone a light on or further exacerbated. These include: the poor health and unhealthy living situations of millions of people across the world; the climate emergency which gets more urgent day-by-day; the deeply embedded social and economic inequalities in our societies; and the rapid transformations in work and the economy which will affect the employment and livelihood opportunities for all.

Design In An Age Of Crisis seeks to find radical and rapid responses to problems facing humanity, today and tomorrow, in response to four briefs (environment, health, society, work). The call is open to all, from established practices to budding young designers across all design disciplines.

Any projects responding to the briefs can be submitted, from simple sketches to fully developed concepts in either PDF, WORD DOC, PPT formats, as well as in the form of audio, video and visual materials.

The creators of the selected applications may have an opportunity to:

  • Participate in the Design In An Age Of Crisis online exhibition in the fall of 2020
  • Exhibit at London Design Biennale held in Somerset House in June 2021
  • Further develop their project with the support of Chatham House

Deadline: August 31, 2020
You can find more information and a detailed description at the website of the call.
